At the center of the enchanting rolling meadows, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His being was mostly untarnished, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was essentially to care for his flock of sheep.
Their soft bleating and the whispering of the breezes through the lone tree on the mountaintop were his main associates. Day upon day, guarding his responsibilities instilled in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.
However, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. During one such occasion because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy conceived a troublesome scheme.
Tales of wolves hunting on sheep website had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy chose to leveraged this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.
One afternoon he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills for rescue but saw no beast.
The boy laughed at the confusion on their faces. This trick laughed for a few days more. Yet, one day, a real wolf did charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the results of dishonesty.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once lost, is hard to regain. It's a story as appropriate today as it was in the past.
